Margaritaville 2005
Key West, FL

Journal Entry: Sunday, August 7, 2005

Today would the band’s last day at Margaritaville.  The Beach Bums made good use of their last day in this southernmost city.  Lunch time came about, so Johnny, Ian, B.J., & friends went down to BO’s Fish Wagon once again. They quickly ate there, then walked up the street to see some festivities going on.

It would be the “Battle of The Bars.”  It’s an event where all the bars in Key West get together and have drinking contests, tug-o-wars, etc.  They sat and watched for a while, and decided to move to other aspects of Key West.

Leaving the Battle of the Bars, Johnny & B.J. decided to show off their feminine side.  Looking Good Johnny & B.J.!

They made a stop into the Hot Sauce store to try out some hot sauces.  They tried everything from mild, to “where’s the F#$@&* water!”  Johnny looked like he was gonna pass out and turned red as a chili pepper.  As for B.J., he looked like he got the wind knocked out of him.  Everyone thinks he went blind for a few minutes.

They left the Chili pepper store walking as if they had been drinking all day.  This may not seem much different from the previous days on the island, but in their intoxicated-chili pepper state, they roamed around to shop some more stopping at cigar and rum cake shops.

Once again the Beach Bums decided to rock out with their friend, Tim Bender, over at Captain Tony’s, back again with miscellaneous percussion instruments.  Johnny & Ian shared the guitar spotlight with Bender playing Beach Bum Tunes and tunes that they don’t normally get to play with the Beach Bum Band.

Evening was drawing near, and the band wanted to have a nice quiet dinner to celebrate their last day on the island and a successful week at Margaritaville.  Blue Heaven was their establishment of choice where they would chow down on Mahi Mahi and Lobster.  Just as they were finishing dinner, another squall came in.  The downpour came down as hard as it did on Thursday. Some of the Beach Bums had to catch a cab back to Margaritaville or suffer a completely soaked shirt during the gig.  Ian was one of them who suffered through both.

They played their show for the last time this year, packed up their gear and was ready to head home. It was time to head back on vacation from their southernmost home.
